Welcome Back East …
Friday afternoon’s Great Outdoors RV 100 at Watkins Glen International (WGI) marks Brett Moffitt’s first appearance in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (NKNPSE) in nearly five years. The driver of the No. 1 Gunma Toyopet Camry is making his return to the series for the first time since Road Atlanta in 2013. While he is now racing full-time in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS), Moffitt’s relationship with team owner Shige Hattori began in the NKNPSE in 2012 when he captured the first victory for HRE at Richmond Raceway.

Get Geared Up … The trip to WGI is the only NKNPSE race on Moffitt’s schedule for 2018 and serves as a preamble to the lone NCWTS road course race at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (CTMP) on August 26th. Moffitt is bringing the majority of his No. 16 NCWTS team to “The Glen” in preparation for the playoff opener at CTMP. The event at CTMP offers playoff eligible drivers like Moffitt the first opportunity to advance towards the NCWTS championship and is one of the most crucial races of the season. Moffitt has only made one road course start in the last 24 months and Friday’s contest will be used as a road course tune up before heading north of the border with the No. 16 team.

Road Course History … Moffitt has an extensive road course background in the NKNPSE as well as the NCWTS and Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS). Over his five-year career in the KNPSE, Moffitt made five starts on road courses, at WGI, Lime Rock Park, Road Atlanta, and Virginia International Raceway (VIR). Moffitt’s best finish was third at WGI in 2009 and at VIR in 2013. Moffitt also recorded his first start at WGI in the MENCS last season.

Season to Date … In 14 NCWTS starts this season, Moffitt has collected three victories for HRE and the No. 16 team. He sits second on the NCWTS Playoff Grid and has 16 Playoff Points to his credit.

Chassis Selection … Moffitt returns to Upstate New York with chassis No. 008 ready to tackle the 2.45-mile road course. This chassis was most recently raced at WGI last season with Ryan Truex in the seat. In last year’s contest, Truex sat on the pole and led the first 26 laps before a flat tire and subsequent damage ended his afternoon prematurely.

Tune In … NBC Sports Network will televise Friday’s Great Outdoors RV 100 on Wednesday, August 8th at 6 p.m. ET. Follow Moffitt and the Gunma Toyopet team by following @Hattori_Racing on Twitter and Hattori Racing Enterprises on Facebook.

Brett Moffitt Quote:

On his returning to the K&N Pro Series at Watkins Glen: “It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to run the K&N (Pro Series) car. I’m looking forward to it, especially at Watkins Glen. I ran the Cup race there and some (K&N Pro Series) East races there and it’s definitely one of my favorite places. We don’t do a whole lot of road course racing, so having the chance to get back in the car with Gunma Toyopet and get into a rhythm of shifting, braking, and doing all those sorts of things is going to help before we go to Canada in the playoffs. We’ll see what the weather does, but if we have to race in the rain, that will be a whole new experience for me. You never know, we might have to use rain tires in Canada, so we’ll do the best we can with whatever comes our way.”
