Hi, fans!

We are gearing up for my biggest race of the year right now – the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East-West Combination Race at the Iowa Speedway. I haven’t been home for about four months and can’t wait to get back and visit with family and friends.

Last year, we were about ten laps short of winning the Iowa race, so I hope we can close the deal this year. The entire Michael Waltrip Racing team has put a lot of extra time and energy into preparing for this race, and I think we have a very good chance.

I enjoy competing at the Iowa Speedway. The track feels a lot like Richmond, but it is a little bigger. It is a perfect place to race or to watch great racing. In years past, the races have been held during the day, but I am pumped to be racing at night this year. That will add a new twist to things.

Because it is a Nationwide double-header weekend, we were able to fly on the MWR team plane. Any time you don’t have to deal with the headaches of flying commercial, it is a great thing! Travis Pastrana will also be running this weekend, so I am looking forward to spending some time at the track with him and helping him, if he needs it. I am also excited to be able to stay and watch the Nationwide race on Sunday.

One of the most amazing perks of going back to Iowa was being given the honor of throwing out the first pitch in the Iowa Cubs game tomorrow. I played baseball a long time ago, but will definitely be outside my comfort zone throwing that pitch. It will be a cool way to spend some time with fellow Iowans and to reach out to some new fans.

Since Richmond, I have been busy training and working at the MWR shop during the week. With Travis running the East cars, also, we have had to put in extra hours in the shop to get both cars ready, and since the weather has been getting nicer, I have been trying to train outside every day with the pit crews.

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to go to Darlington, SC, to spend time with the Nationwide team and learn from them. It was my first time at Darlington, and it looks like a racer’s track. I really hope to have the chance to run there in the near future.

Hopefully, I will see some of you in Iowa. Please be sure to come by and say hi if you are there!

Brett
